“Revenge is a dish best served cold…” – Don Vito Corleone.
It was a good thing when we were eating at Don’s Diner none of the dishes were cold… nor called “revenge”.
Don’s Diner, a restaurant located at Section 17, Petaling Jaya, is a place to go if you are craving for Malaysian and Italian food at the same time. Not only it serves Malaysian-Italian fusion, the décor will have you feel like you are entering an Italian mob diner, having its theme inspired by the movie – The Godfather. Not exactly a mobster’s dwelling place, Don’s Diner is actually quite family-friendly, featuring both ala-carte and large sharing portions, and some of their dishes highlight a tinge of Malaysian in them.
As how we see in TV or movies, Italians tend to enjoy a good meal with a big group of people – friends and family. Coincidentally, this is what we noticed of the patrons to Don’s Diner; most of them are either families or a big group of friends. The more the merrier!
Trio Slider – served with fries, it features a mini lamb burger with mint yogurt, mini beef burger with mustard and mini chicken burger with salsa sauce. Price – RM25.00
Two Way King Oysters (6 pieces) – a combination of baked oysters with spinach, blue cheese, parmesan cheese and heavy cream, also deep-fried and served with tomato lime salsa. Price – RM38.00
Grilled Lamb Rack – served with potatoes and sautéed vegetables. Price – RM55.00
Kaese Spaetzle (L) – home made German noodles served with sautéed mushrooms, turkey ham, spinach and gorgonzola cheese and cream sauce. Price: RM28.00
Fettuccine Truffle (R) – home made fresh fettuccine pasta tossed with sautéed garlic, onion, truffle paste, brown sauce, whipping cream, parmesan cheese and thinly sliced black truffles. Price: RM49.00
They even have the Lunch Promo, daily from 12pm-3pm and every dish comes with a free Iced Lemon Tea; perfect for the white-collared lunch-goers in Petaling Jaya.
Sharing is caring. Don’s Diner features the La Familia Platter that could serve up to 8 pax! With a delectable selection of either seafood or meat, patrons are sure to be able to have a taste of different dishes in one combo serving!
Sticking to its Italian theme, the dessert selection features choices like the Cannoli ala Siciliani (puff pastry tube filled with vanilla custard, topped with chocolate and walnuts), the Mafiaso Toast (oven hot thick toast drizzled with caramel sauce), the Don’s Grenade (chocolate shell with fruit cake, fresh fruits and vanilla ice-cream, with salted caramel dribbled on top) and others. Their drinks, the signature Hausboom™ – which feature different fruit cocktails, are a must-try!
A feel-good restaurant with a Malaysian-Italian fusion style of food may not be largely accepted by the public for now, but with its large portions and friendly staff members, Don’s Diner is positively worth a try, especially for those who are planning to dine in a big group.
